From today, Bulgaria is now an even bigger friend of Macedonia and our ally in the Euro-Atlantic perspective, stated Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at a joint press conference with Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, after signing the Agreement for Good Neighborly Relations and Friendship between Macedonia and Bulgaria.
“The signing of the Agreement for Good Neighborly Relations and Friendship with Bulgaria shows that where there is political will, issues will be resolved. Macedonia and Bulgaria made a historic step forward and together, we set the past as the foundation for the future and opened a path for stability and development for the two countries. This agreement is a mutual success and will contribute to the political stabilization for both countries and the region. Macedonia and Bulgaria have shown responsibility for their citizens. Our friendship and good neighborliness are an example of how a brake can be turned into an engine of cooperation”, said Zaev.
The Macedonian Prime Minister stressed that the agreement is also a significant message to the EU and NATO, that the countries of the region have political leadership that build bridges supported by democratic citizens.
Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, said that the term common history is a term that gives perspective and unites, and does not divide.
When asked about the concessions made by the two countries to reach the agreement, Zaev said they decided to look at the glass as half full, and not half-empty, so that the two countries can move forward.
